seems like it’s not just a singaporean thing

“i didn’t want to live like a college kid anymore, i wanted to live like an adult”  — so jack spade said today. at which point in your life do you decide on such things?

i kinda felt small and young when i heard that. but i’m trying to tell myself i really shouldn’t.

the making of

i only have the basics – i.e. bed and mattress and lamp. but i’m thinking of possibly keeping some of these makeshift elements. anyway, here are some initial shots of my room! i’ll take more shots of the rest of the house when it’s brighter in the day.

singacago

today, i went for a CNY lunch organised by some singaporean society. i wasn’t planning to, but a friend dragged me along. i was expecting it to be cheesy, but oh boy, it was worse than cheesy. there were singaporeans in fake accents selling singaporean propaganda. and they didn’t even feel singaporean. maybe that’s why they left singapore.

who talks about a society website over lunch? an ugly one too. ewww!

thankfully, i decided to go for a random ladies’ dinner i found off craigslist. and that turned out to be interesting. 20 or so strangers, chatting over food and drinks. i was worried that it was going to be nerds and weirdos, but you know what, there are actually attractive, normal, friendly, smart women out there wanting to meet new people online too! i am not alone.

i was careless last night

nono, nothing happened. but i did get drunk. for the life of me, i cannot remember how i got home, but i’m thankful i got home safe and sound. i even removed my make up and took a shower! i did have a terrible hangover this morning though. and that screwed up some of my plans today. but that i’ll save that for my next post. now for the highlights of friday night.

today,

jack spade called me sarcastic. am i? not a bad thing really, just wondering what you think. i guess that’s the humour that comes most naturally to me. i grew up in a clique where it was the norm was to poke fun at close friends. in fact, the closer we were, the more we laughed at one another. no niceties for me. man, i can’t even stand chivalrous guys!

another personal update

to potaytoh

Hi.

So, to start with, I have to say my inspiration to write to you was based on your screen name – potaytoh. I’m curious how you came up with that, and what significance it may have. This is because I do some art and crafty stuff centered on potatoes. That’s been my focus lately. Aside from that, I too think it would be good to find someone creative to hang out with.

If this interests you, feel free to write back.

no more sliding on walden pond

now for the real thing. skating in the millenium park rink. except that all you do is go round and round and round. it’s my first time ice skating, although it is quite similar to inline skating. but i’ll have to learn how to break properly this time round, cos there are no breaks on the heel anymore. the grooves are especially irritating though, made me fall on my knees. i feel a huge bruise swelling already.

bbboston

seems like i’ll be doing this in batches. so i was in boston over the long weekend to visit mr teo. strange that we didn’t talk much when we were in school, then picked things up when i was coming over. that’s when i found niceness. well, that’s what happens when you move halfway across the world.

teo-and-chia.jpg

that’s niceness right there, beside me.

thoreau.jpg

thoreau imparting words of wisdom.

not quite sure i can live as simply as thoreau did in walden yet, but it sure got me thinking a little about my excesses. i also liked how he defined his three chairs – one for solitude, two for friendship, three for society. and if you know me, that’s probably about all the chairs i need, literally.

the air mattress that will soon be returned to target. ka-ching!

thanks to the return policy and mr teo’s ingenious plan, my bed was on loan from target.
